About Us

The team behind KG Virtual Tours and our passion for Karangahake Gorge.

Who We Are

KG Virtual Tours is a student project group from Wintec, brought together through the Interactive Digital Media module. With a shared passion for heritage, technology, and the natural world, we set out to make Karangahake Gorge accessible to everyone — whether you're a local revisiting a favourite track or someone on the other side of the world discovering it for the first time.

Our Mission

We believe that heritage should be shared, not gated by distance or ability. Our mission is to create immersive, respectful virtual experiences of Karangahake Gorge that honour the land and its stories. By combining high-quality video, historical research, and thoughtful design, we bring the sights, sounds, and stories of the gorge to anyone with a screen — at no cost, any time.

How It Works

Each virtual tour is built from real footage captured along the gorge's tracks and tunnels. Browse the History page to learn about the stories behind each location, then head to our Virtual Tours page to walk the tracks yourself — no booking, no travel, no gear required.
